Breitling Oil and Gas in Talks with Cuadrilla on UK Drilling

US shale gas production company Breitling Oil and Gas has held talks with UK company Cuadrilla Resources over the latter’s shale gas mining operations in northwest England. The news came as Cuadrilla announced it was ready to resume drilling for the first time since its use of hydraulic fracturing caused minor earthquakes in the Blackpool area last May. It follows reports that Igas, another UK shale gas production company, is seeking a “global player” to partner it in its operations – also in the northwest. Breitling chief executive Chris Faulkner has estimated that UK shale gas reserves stand at 350 trillion cubic metres – about 100 times the UK’s annual gas consumption. However, he said it could be ten years before the technology was developed enough to reach it.
