Basic Formation Information
Well completions in the Granite Wash have steadily increased since the early 1970s, but it was not until the reinvention of water frac technology and increased gas prices that the number of completions really took off. Additionally, the advent of horizontal drilling and multi-stage hydraulic fracs have also proven successful for operators. The Pennsylvania Granite Wash formations provide many horizontal drilling opportunities. Much of the current activity is focused on the Stiles Ranch field where several horizontal wells have recently been gauged at more than 20 million cubic feet per day.
