A Fort Worth man has been accused of transporting illegal aliens for a shale gas project.
Douglas C. Wiggill, 42, of Fort Worth has been arrested by Pennsylvania authorities, accused of transporting 19 illegal immigrants there to work on seismic surveys for the oil and gas industry. The Fort Worth man is a field supervisor for GPX, a Sealy, Texas, based company which was also accused in a 20-count indictment, according to Pennsylvania news outlets. If convicted on all 20 counts, Wiggill faces up to 100 years in prison and a $5 million fine, the Justice Department says. GPX faces a maximum fine of $10 million.
Some Pennsylvania residents have complained that while the gas industry touts drilling in the Marcellus Shale for the jobs it brings, that some of the work is going to undocumented immigrants.
The Fort Worth man has pleaded not guilty, according to news reports. He was released on bond.
